About Me

Hi! I'm Olivia. I graduated from Hope College in 2020 with bachelor's degrees in Studio Art and Sociology. My time at Hope College involved exploring many artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, and sculpting. But I believe I found my true passion and medium of choice when I picked up an iPad and began to work digitally. Using ProCreate, I have taught myself how to make animations, and I have been continually surprised and delighted with the process of animating.

My inspiration comes from life's biggest questions, the questions I cannot ignore. Who am I? Who am I, really? Life experience has taught me that no identity is fixed and that there is a fluidity to everything. My degree in Sociology has also given me language to think about this. Sociology teaches that everything we see and know is socially constructed, including our own selves. In short, perspective is everything. This is the primary idea that I want to explore in my work.

Aside from my artistic ventures, I also like to go on walks, eat smoothies, and watch the ants in my ant farm.

“Mind Movie” This piece is inspired by mindset coach Joe Dispenza and his “mind movie” technique. By alternating kaleidoscopic footage with images of your desired life, Dispenza believes that a hypnotic effect is achieved and allows participants to more easily envision their ideal future selves and lives.

“The Same But Different” By using the technical constraint of a single shape, I animate several different faces. This piece is about perception, the multifaceted nature of identity, and the creative process.
